Game Reserve Drive, June 25

Today we drove out to the Polokwane Game Reserve. We were supposed to take a guided tour but it did not work out for us (what else is new on this crazy vacation), so in true Roger and Sprout fashion we decided to drive through the reserve in our rented Volkswagon Citi (the second smallest car ever built, I believe).
After signing in we headed into the reserve on a single lane dirt road in search of the elusive white rhino. At the first water hole, there they were a mere lob wedge away from us, three huge beasts calmly enjoying themselves as we snapped picture after picture. Amazing!!
As we drove on our eyes were pealed to the dry Bushveld looking for our next opportunity to see animals in the wild. Zebras on the left!! Stop the car!! I never realized how large zebras were. Up close they are magnificent. Giraffes on the right!! Tall and stately we decide to get out of the car and walk closer to get better pictures.
Ostriches frolicking, a baby giraffe, and steenbok running in front of our car are all part of this wonderful experience. At the animal hide and watering hole, we decide to check it out and as we sit quietly watching through a slit in the brick blind three waterbuck, oblivious to our presence, go about their daily routine.
Very exciting and fun, but now we are moving on (and looking forward to) Cape Town….
